Russia is Algeria’s primary military hardware supplier, and continues to deliver land, sea and air equipment, including T-90 main battle tanks, Mi-28NE attack helicopters and Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopters.
A Russian defence industry source told Russian news agency TASS that Russian defence exports to Algeria amounted to $457 million last year and Russia has supplied $8.27 billion worth of hardware since 1991.
Deliveries continue, with Russia shipping 67 T-90SA main battle tanks in July, as part of a 2014 contract for 200 tanks. Deliveries began last year and will be completed by the end of next year. Algeria will have received a total of 508 T-90SA tanks, the defence source told TASS, but this may increase as Algeria is considering local production under license.
