More details of the frigates that German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is building for Algeria have emerged over the last month that suggest they will be very heavily armed.

IHS Jane’s reported on 5 April 2012 that a deal had been concluded on 26 March and covered the delivery of two vessels that would be similar to the MEKO A-200-class frigates that TKMS built for South Africa, but would be armed with Saab RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles instead of Exocets and Rheinmetall MLG 27 mm guns instead of two 20 mm and a twin 35 mm.

It was subsequently reported that the deal also included six AgustaWestland Super Lynx helicopters armed with Denel Mokopa missiles and Eurotorp MU-90 lightweight torpedoes.
