Kuwait will receive two more Patriot air defence fire units under a USD655.4 million contract awarded to Raytheon. The US Department of Defense announced the contract on 28 February and said its estimated completion date was 30 April 2018.
The country currently has five Raytheon Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) fire units, each with five launchers, an AN/MPQ-53 radar and command-and-control units.
Kuwait’s PAC-2 launchers will be upgraded so they can fire Lockheed Martin’s ‘hit-to-kill’ PAC-3 missile under two contracts awarded to that company in July and December 2013. Both contracts also included the delivery of PAC-3 missiles.
