A group of Kurdish peshmerga fighters is expected to replace those currently defending the Syrian town of Kobani and join the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a report says.

The peshmerga forces will cross into Kobani via Turkey while the group of fighters they are to relieve will head in the opposite direction, according to the Iraqi Kurdish Rudaw news website.

Turkey, criticized in the West for not supporting the efforts of the US-led coalition against ISIL, allowed a small contingent of Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters to pass through its territory and reinforce Syrian Kurds in Kobani in October. […]
