USS Elrod (FFG 55), the U.S. Navy’s Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate wrapped up her visit to Mauritania and headed out to sea on February 10.

The visit was a perfect opportunity for Elrod sailors to work side by side with their colleagues from the Tunisian Navy. The crews teamed up in a passing exercise (PASSEX), exchanging techniques in critical warfare areas such as damage control, expeditionary medical care and boarding operations.

The PASSEX saw the two navies engage in a simulated boarding operation. The Tunisian navy’s visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) team came aboard the US navy ship, which played the role of a shipping vessel, where the US crew played the role of smugglers.
