The UAE has signed a deal to purchase AED3bn ($816m) worth of armoured vehicles, it was announced on Wednesday.

The General Headquarters (GHQ) of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces and Nimr Automotive, a member of Abu Dhabi-based Tawazun group, have signed a contract which provides for the supply of 6X6 and 4X4 Nimr vehicles, at a total value of more than AED3bn, the WAM news agency reported.

In February, the GHQ announced in a statement its intention to sign the deal, following successful extensive all-terrain tests for the vehicle in the UAE.
