Turkey scrambled two jet fighters to intercept a Syrian warplane approaching the border town of Yayladağı, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced on Thursday.
In a statement, the TSK said a Syrian Su-24 warplane turned back 3.6 nautical miles from the Turkish-Syrian border as Turkish F-16 fighters approached. The statement also noted that another two jet fighters were forced to intercept an Su-24 warplane as it flew in the direction of the border town of Cilvegözü, before it turned back 4.5 nautical miles from the border.
“F-16 fighter jets performing a patrol on the Turkey-Syria frontier were harassed by Syrian missile systems that locked onto our jets for 10 seconds,” added the announcement. […]
