The new Enigma infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that was unveiled at IDEX 2015 in Abu Dhabi will be submitted for the Emirati military’s long-standing 8×8 IFV requirement,IHS Jane’s has confirmed.

Mohamed bin Jabr al-Suwaidi, CEO of Emirates Defense Technology (EDT), which is developing the Enigma, said the vehicle had been developed specifically for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Army. This was the reason why the vehicle displayed at IDEX was fitted with the turret from the BMP-3 tracked IFV that is currently in service with the UAE Army, he added.

“Next summer the UAE will conduct more tests on the new vehicle,” confirmed Suwaid. “We focused our production on the hot climate and the movement of Engima in the desert.” […]
