Jordan will receive four Air Tractor/L-3 Communications AT-802 intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) turboprops that were originally slated for delivery to Yemen, IHS Jane’s has learned.
The aircraft, which will be delivered in an unarmed ISR configuration, are the subject of a USD9.78 million contract awarded to L-3 Communications by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 27 September. The contract covers delivery of the aircraft to the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) and support, as well as pilot and maintainer training. Work is scheduled to be complete by 30 September 2016.
IHS Jane’s had suggested this contract might pertain to the transfer of MC-12W Project Liberty platforms from the US Air Force (USAF), given the relatively low contract value, the rapid timelines, the current status of the USAF’s MC-12W programme, which has four aircraft unaccounted for, and the fact that L-3 Communications had developed these platforms in the first place.
