Israel’s decision to close al-Aqsa mosque compound in response to the shooting of an Israeli-US rabbi has been described as a “declaration of war”.

Yehuda Glick, a rightwing campaigner who wants Jews to be allowed to pray at the site of al-Aqsa mosque, an area known to Jews as Temple Mount, was shot and seriously wounded on Wednesday, raising fears of a broader Israeli-Palestinian confrontation.
