The army is considering whether to scale back Israeli defenses against chemical attack due as the regional risk diminshes with the dismantling of the Syrian chemical weapons arsenal.

Home Front commander Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg has established a committee to consider whether the Israeli army should scale back the Home Front forces, transferring the chemical and biological warfare battalions to other duties.

According to a senior official involved in the work of the committee, it will be made up of representatives of the Home Front Command, the planning branch of the Defense Ministry, and other bodies.
