Gazans girded for heavier Israeli shelling and air attacks on Friday night as Israel’s prime minister ordered the military to prepare for the possibility of significantly expanding the newly launched ground invasion.
In the first day of clashes on the ground, Hamas said it fought Israeli troops in at least four parts of the Gaza Strip including Beit Hanoun, Khan Younis, and Rafah. The Islamist group which rules Gaza also claimed it laid an ambush for soldiers in the village of Umm Al Nasr. Israel wouldn’t comment on the Hamas assertions.
