Iran will push forwards with the development of its indigenous air defence systems even though it is acquiring the S-300 from Russia, senior Iranian officials have said.
“The long-range air defence missile system Bavar-373 will be built by the end of this year and will be deployed in specific regions,” the Fars News Agency quoted Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, the commander of the Islamic Republic’s air defence force, as saying on 28 April. The current Persian year ends on 19 March 2016.
In an interview with Russia Today on 25 April, Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan said the Bavar-373 would be tested before the end on the year without adding that it would be deployed. […]
