Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has rejected Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud Faisal’s suggestion that Iran should withdraw its troops from Syria to facilitate the settlement of the conflict in the country, the Elaph newspaper reported Tuesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is an important country of the region that is fighting terrorism. The Iranian government will help the nations of Iraq and Syria in accordance with international laws,” Abdollahian was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Syria and Iraq are currently battling the advance of the Islamic State (IS) extremist group that has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012 and launched attacks in Iraq in June 2014.
