A top Iranian military commander has signaled his country’s willingness to conduct aerial operations in Syria, a week after a report claimed Tehran was preparing to deploy jets to the war-torn country.

Iranian Army ground force chief Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters Tuesday that Tehran’s military role in Syria and Iraq could encompass a ground as well as aerial presence.
