The 900th Kfir Brigade has recently been reassigned from the 162nd Armoured Division to the 340th Division: a move that will see the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF’s) youngest formation shift away from territorial security activities to become an all-purpose, multi-arena brigade.

The infantry brigade was formed in 2005 to help maintain security in the West Bank and has taken a lead role in recent years in counter-terrorism raids and continuous security missions as part of the 162nd Armoured Division (dubbed the Steel Formation), which operates under the army’s Central Command.

The brigade’s formal reassignment to the 340th Division (the Idan Formation) comes after several of its battalions were moved from the West Bank to carry out security missions on the northern border with Lebanon over the last 18 months.
